The Concerned Black Women(CBW) of Calvert County, MD Inc is sponsoring a new scholarship program for women entitled “ Women in Transition Scholarship Program.” This $500.00 scholarship program is for women over 35 years old who are not employed or under employed in a job with limited pay, growth potential or benefits. The purpose of this scholarship is to allow women to pursue educational goals or re-training programs to transition to new careers or to return to the workplace. Attached to this message is a copy of the application. Some of you may receive a copy by mail also. Please copy and pass on to anyone that you think would benefit from this scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by May 30, 2012.

The Arc of Southern Maryland will sponsor the 10th Annual Pat Collins Golf Classic to support individuals and families of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities May 24. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Twin Shield Golf Club.
This annual event is held in honor of Pat Collins, a former board president of The Arc of Southern Maryland. Collins worked tirelessly for many years to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Southern Maryland. “The Arc of Southern Maryland sponsors this tournament as a living memorial to my father,” said John Collins, son of Pat Collins. He continued, “those who serve as sponsors, players and supporters of the tournament allow The Arc to carry-on and continue the mission to which my father was so committed.”

The text amendment request proposes changes to commercial land use regulation in the Prince Frederick Town Center. If adopted, the amendment could limit options for development on the former Calvert Middle School property. The BOCC and the Planning Commission will review the text amendment proposal at a joint public hearing on May 1, 7:30 p.m., at the Calvert High School auditorium, 600 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick. Public testimony will be taken at the meeting. Only testimony specific to the proposed text amendment will be heard.
